Daoshing Ni, DOM, PhD, LAc
Qi Development Department
DOM: Samra University
PhD: Samra University
Dr. Dao was born into a close-knit family where the healing arts spanned thirty-eight generations and seventy-five generations in Taoism. Dr. Dao began his studies as a young child with his father, Hua Ching Ni, a world renowned physician of Chinese Medicine in traditional Taoist healing and Chinese Medicine. In the Ni family, it was expected that Dr. Dao and his brother Maoshing Ni, L.Ac., D.O.M., Ph.D. would someday fill their father's larger-than-life shoes. Rigorous training began early in childhood, with the boys memorizing the medical classics such as The Yellow Emperor's Classic on Medicine--Nei Jing and apprenticing in their father's busy clinic. They were trained in the martial arts, taijiquan, meditation and the study of the Chinese spiritual classic I-Ching, the Book of Changes. While others went to summer camp or vacations, the future doctors attended their father's "healing camp". It was only years later that they appreciated the wisdom of their family's tradition. In 1975, as a Taoist master of healing and spirituality, Master Ni was invited to teach Taoist philosophy and arts as well as Chinese Medicine in the United States. The family immigrated to the U.S. in 1978. Dr. Dao continued training in Chinese medicine in a traditional apprenticeship from father to son. He went on to obtain degrees from Samra University in Los Angeles and a license to practice in the state of California.
After completing his doctorate degrees in Oriental Medicine, Dr. Dao completed his post-graduate residency in Dong Zhi Meng Hospital, an affiliated teaching hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing and Xuan Wu Hospital, an affiliated teaching hospital of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanjing. In these prestigious hospitals, Dr. Dao observed doctors of Chinese Medicine and Western medical doctors working side by side and learned first-hand how these two medical traditions can be integrated to best serve patients' needs. The brothers co-founded the Tao of Wellness Clinic in Los Angeles, California, where Dr. Dao practices general medicine and specializes in reproductive medicine and women's health. He is highly regarded in both the Western and Oriental medical community and has worked hard to create the model of integrative healing that embraces the best of natural medicine and western medicine.
Drs. Dao and Mao co-founded Yo San University in 1989, which offers educational training in Chinese Medicine and actively promotes the integration of Chinese and Western medicines. Dr. Dao is currently a professor of Chinese Medicine as well as a trustee at Yo San University.
